‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Featurette Explores The Vulture’s Suit

Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Homecoming introduced Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a family man and former salvage company owner who fashioned a flying exo-suit from stolen alien tech to become high-flying villain the Vulture.

In a new featurette from Spider-Man: Homecoming's home release, Keaton, co-producer Eric Hauserman Carroll and executive producer Jeremy Latcham delve into the winged criminal's deadly suit.

"One of the things that knocked me out about being the Vulture was the amazing artistry of the Vulture's suit," Keaton said. "It was extraordinary, down to the tiny little nuts and bolts. Even the mechanics of it, I was just knocked out by how talented those people were."

"This isn't some small backpack that he straps on and wings pop out of it, this is way more like an aircraft that he straps into," Hauserman Carroll said in-between behind-the-scenes peeks at the Vulture, whose getup includes a fur collared bomber jacket and a cowl similar to that of a jet pilot.

With his glowing green eyes, vicious claws and massive wingspan, the first live-action take on Vulture is decidedly more threatening than his Marvel Comics counterpart, who is traditionally depicted as a fragile geriatric in a simple bird costume.

"You have a bad guy who's wearing a thirty-foot wingspan Vulture armor made out of all kinds of Chitauri tech he stole from the Avengers," Latcham said as the featurette offered a detailed look at Vulture's massive flying apparatus.

"The Vulture look is an intense look, and just wearing the costume makes you feel physically imposing," Keaton added.

The Vulture underwent several different looks while being adapted from page to screen, with artist Josh Nizzi revealing his early take on the character in an Instagram post. According to Nizzi, there was an idea for Vulture to have belonged to the same drop unit as Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), the soaring Avenger better known as Falcon.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is now available to own on Digital HD and swings onto store shelves in 4K UHD and Blu-ray October 17.
