Larry Fong Praises Justice League's Cinematography

The cinematographer for the upcoming Justice League film is a relative new comer to this level and budget filmmaking. Fabian Wagner, has many credits under his belt, but mostly television. Up until 2014 when he started filming episodes (six in total) of the HBO series Game of Thrones, the sort of show that each episode could stand in for a theatrically release film. So it can't be said that Warner Brothers and Zach Snyder took a risk on Wagner - but the change over from Snyders long time collaborator, Larry Fong was noticed.

Fong who started out in music videos with the like of R.E.M and Iggy pop moved to TV with the hit series with the confusing ending, Lost. From there he hooked up with Snyder, filming 300 in 2006, then Watchmen, Sucker Punch and of course Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. I haven't seen any reason for the split - possibly scheduling conflicts as Fong filmed Kong: Skull Island and is spending 2017 working on The Predator.

The change seems to be friendly and after a twitter follower of Fong tweeted "Not a day goes by where I don't cry due to @larryfong not doing Justice League's cinematography," Fong responded with, "Dry your eyes! Fabian Wagner is amazingly talented and what I've seen is incredible." The admiration seems to be mutual as Wagner was quoted as saying:

"Last year I was fortunate enough to work with Zack Snyder on his new movie JUSTICE LEAGUE. I had always been a fan of his work and of his long time cinematographer Larry Fong. I tried to put my own stamp onto it but Larry's dark and beautiful lighting was a huge source of inspiration. I had the best time working with all of those guys."

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, based on a story by Snyder and Terrio, and stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, Willem Dafoe, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
