Sega has some big plans on the horizon over the next few months – but we could be seeing even bigger things down the road.

The company has been doing rather well this year, between the arrival of Atlus' Persona 5, the surprise release of Bayonetta on PC, the pending arrival of Vanquish on PC later this month, and, of course, two Sonic the Hedgehog games worth getting excited over – Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces. But that could very well be just the beginning.

The company hosted a recent Road to 2020 business presentation for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, and it has some big plans in store. In fact, we could be seeing the return of several favorite franchises as a result.

In the section marked Segment Goal/Business Strategies, it made note of several factors in its forthcoming success, including the "revival of major IPs". Check out the full road map below.

Packaged Games Field (example titles: Total War: Warhammer, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Football Manager 2017, and Persona 5)

  • Expand existing IPs and obtain new IPs for North American and European PC games
  • Build revenue base by being entrusted with outsourced development
  • Challenge for new IPs
  • Revival of major IPs
  • Effective utilization of development engines

Digital Games Field (example titles: Puyo Puyo!! Quest, Hortensia Saga, Chain Chronicle 3, and Phantasy Star Online 2)

  • Create titles that will become global hits
  • Establish digital marketing business
  • Expand overseas publishing business
  • Maintain profits through long-term operation of existing titles
  • Develop next-generation titles

It sounds like Sega wants to get a lot done, and that includes bringing back some classic favorites. Could we very well see the return of the Streets of Rage brand? Maybe a little Virtua Tennis? Or how about Crazy Taxi? For that matter, why not just bring the Dreamcast brand back as a line-up of HD releases?

The company didn't elaborate just what kind of plans it's making yet, but we'll likely know more in just a few weeks, when the Electronic Entertainment Expo takes place. Hopefully then, we'll get an idea of what it has in mind.

But, yeah, Dreamcast brand, please. We'd be so down.
