Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned monster movie? Well, the team at Roger! Pictures sure does.

The studio has announced that it has partnered with the game development team at Cinemaware to bring its classic 80's video game It Came From the Desert to the big-screen, with a forthcoming film that features, yep, plenty of creepy crawly bugs in the desert.

The action comedy, which actually began production back in 2015 before running into a few days, focuses on humans finding themselves facing off against giant mutated ants in the New Mexico desert, looking for any means to survive as it turns out they're bigger in number than anyone was expecting.

It Came From the Desert appears to be going on the right track again, as there's not only a new poster (pictured below) and trailer for the film, but also an official distribution partner, as Raven Banner Entertainment will be handling that.

The movie definitely looks like it was inspired by some of the older horror movies in the genre, like Them! from 1954, as well as Empire of the Ants from 1997 and, dare we add it, Eight Legged Freaks from 2002. It definitely looks to have the same campy tone as the video game it was based on.

It doesn't appear to have an official casting list just yet, but the film was directed by Marko Makilaakso (War of the Dead), who also co-wrote the script alongside Hank Woon (Age of Dinosaurs) and Trent Haaga (Killjoy).

More than likely, the film will be a direct-to-video release, though there is a chance it'll see some slight theater distribution, since there are fans that wouldn't mind seeing It Came From the Desert come to life on the big-screen. I mean, how else are you supposed to watch bugs trashing a city?

The film hasn't been given a release date yet, but more details are expected soon. It'd certainly make for a goofy summer treat if Raven Banner Entertainment can release it in time.

Anyway, enjoy the trailer above, and then wonder what other Cinemaware classics should get proper treatment for the big screen. Hmmmm…
