Despite its popularity, a game like Fallout 4 can be a bit of a hard sell for folks. That's why Bethesda is letting you play the game for free all weekend on PC via Steam and on Xbox One. "This weekend you can explore everything a post-nuclear Boston has to offer with the first-ever Fallout 4 Free Weekend. From May 25 to 28, Xbox Live Gold Members and Steam users will be able to play all of Fallout 4's base content and try out Mods for free."

That last bit should actually be one of the most important for you guys. Mods are of course enabled on the PC version of Fallout 4, but you can also bring a selection of Bethesda-curated mods to the Xbox One version of the game, and they add so much value and replayability. I'd obviously recommend playing through a few hours of Fallout 4 without mods just to get your feet wet and to see what you think of the pacing and story -- it has a pretty great intro -- and then once you feel you're starting to get bored (if that ever happens), download the Cheat Terminal and start having some fun.

We're especially excited for Xbox One owners who have been console players their entire lives and are about to stumble into the world of mods for the first time. We older gamers remember the days of Game Genie and GameShark opening up our favorite games in new ways after "playing vanilla" for dozens of hundreds of hours, and this is a huge reason that PC gaming is so popular. Try modding up Fallout 4, and you'll understand why Bethesda games especially are so revered for their modding communities.

If after this lovely weekend of free Fallout you decide that this is a game that you would love to throw away your free time to play, you'll be glad to know that Bethesda will be offering the full version at a special discount across Steam, Xbox One, and PS4. Happy wandering.
