Ubisoft has been pouring a lot of anticipation into its official Nintendo crossover title Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, based on a great presentation we saw during the company's pre-E3 press conference last month. But the company could be planning a move that will help boost sales of the forthcoming role-playing adventure.

According to a report from Nintendo Soup, an anonymous source currently working inside the company indicates that there could be a price drop coming for the game right before it hits the Nintendo Switch. The source indicates, with several documents, that the price couple drop to $49.99, down from the usual price tag of $59.99 for most Nintendo Switch software.

This move wouldn't be unheard of, as it would be seen as a bargain to both family gamers that want to pick up the latest Mario game (especially with a couple months to go before Super Mario Odyssey arrives) as well as casual gamers looking to add one more title to their Nintendo Switch collection.

And we've seen sudden price drops of games in the past, though it's usually after the game comes out. For instance, Bethesda's Prey, which came out earlier this summer, dropped down to $39.99 at certain retailers closely following its release, though it was only a temporary drop. The same goes for DiRT 4 from Deep Silver, though, again, it was only temporary, and the game soon went back up to its $59.99 price point.

Ubisoft hasn't said a word regarding the pricing of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, so we'll take this rumor with a grain of salt. That said, it wouldn't surprise us if Ubisoft went for a lower price point. There's word that the company's port of Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition for the system will sell for $39.99, though that hasn't been finalized yet. A cheaper price point would obviously give the games a boost in sales…so we'll see what happens in the next couple of months.

We're still looking forward to Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle anyway. It looks like a ton of fun, even if we do end up paying full price for it.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle arrives on August 29th for Nintendo Switch.
