There's a new Rainbow Six Siege patch out right now for PS4 that you may want to hold off on downloading. If your console is set to download and install updates and games automatically in the background, just make sure you don't boot up your in-game friends list or entertain any party invites while playing the game. The newest patch introduced a bizarre bug that is crashing everyone's consoles whenever they use social features within Rainbow Six Siege. This has been happening since yesterday, and Ubisoft still hasn't hot-patched the issue as of yet.

An update on the official Ubisoft support page reads as follows: "Players have reported a crashing issue regarding the party invitation. We are cooperating with Sony on this issue and would advise you to not use this feature until a resolution is found." The update concludes by directing players to the Ubisoft Support Twitter page for the latest updates. The Ubisoft Twitter page, as you might have guessed, will simply direct you back to this update page for answers.

The bottom line is Ubisoft is working on it, but in the meantime, do not boot up Rainbow Six Siege and open up the friends list in-game. Repeated console crashes can, and eventually will, lead to hard drive corruption. This is your warning.

No one understands Rainbow Six Siege addiction better than your author. I've started many "one-hour" sessions before bed that turned into sunrise regrets. There's only one way to play Siege, and that's in marathon sessions, and this is a game that absolutely begs to be played with friends. Verbal communication is of the utmost tactical importance when playing at a high level, so this bug is particularly disturbing.

We'll update you as soon as Ubisoft straightens this out. We expect a fix by the end of the day.
