Loot boxes have become a frequent addition to recent games, and it appears as though Asssassin's Creed Origins will follow suit by including randomized loot in the upcoming game.

The itemization and inventory system in Assassin's Creed Origins has supposedly been revamped to be more RPG-like with more customizable options and features included, so the addition of loot boxes might not seem like the biggest addition to Assassin's Creed veterans among the other changes. However, it's not been confirmed yet whether or not the loot boxes will be purchasable with real money, one detail that could certainly prove to be a sore point.

A preview of Origins gameplay shown in a video uploaded by Centerstrain01 is the first look at these new loot boxes that players have gotten so far. Called "Heka" chests, these boxes can be purchased through vendors using in-game currency and offer a chance at some random loot. The description of the item, seen in the above video around the 2:30 mark, says that it includes a random weapon or shield, but it's undetermined if those loot items stay within certain boundaries or rarity or quality.

Previous Assassin's Creed games have provided the option for players to use real-world money to fuel their in-game adventures, so the same can likely be expected for Origins. The loot boxes can be purchased with solely game money it seems, but an option to spend a bit of cash and convert it into game funds is a probable method of attaining more loot.

Of course, as long as the loot boxes don't provide too much of an imbalance in the game, there shouldn't be much of a problem with players spending their own money on the loot. If it only affects your personal experience and players have proven they're willing to spend money on microtransaction for themselves, there's no reason to stop them. But other similar purchases may be included elsewhere in the game, so it remains to be seen exactly how it'll affect the rest of the Egyptian world.
