The team at Omega Force is hard at working on wrapping up development on Dynasty Warriors 9, which looks to be its biggest entry in the action series to date. But that isn't stopping the publishing team at Koei Tecmo from dreaming even bigger – with a particular franchise in mind.

During a recent event in San Francisco, Gamespot had the opportunity to speak with Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma about the company's recent hits, including Nioh and Sword of the Berserk, but dreamed of a somewhat bigger franchise – Star Wars.

Of course, the possibilities are there, but it depends how closely Koei Tecmo would have to work with Electronic Arts, the current holders of the Star Wars gaming license. Still, Koinuma was optimistic: "I'm always saying this, but I think Star Wars has been really successful and I would love for us to make that game."

Koinuma also talked a bit about Nioh, explaining, "It's been a while since a new IP became so successful like that. So based on that experience, we definitely want to continue to makes games that offer different challenges that push us. [Nioh's] success has had an impact on us."

And of course, the Nintendo Switch was brought up as well: "I believe that the Switch was well-received and became popular because it's really suited for the modern lifestyle, not only in Japan, but the US and also European countries as well," he said. "So we are readily available to make titles available on Switch, and either our own IPs or some other company's IPs. I feel we've been working on making the titles available on Switch much faster than the other publishers. If there is any need or wishes to be played on Switch, then definitely, we will work on that."

So there's a lot of thought going into the publisher's next projects, but obviously there's big focus on Dynasty Warriors 9 at the moment. After that, however, the sky is certainly the limit.

But, man, a Star Wars game with this engine would be fun. Can you imagine obliterating hundreds of soldiers at once with Kylo Ren? We sure can.

Dynasty Warriors 9 will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC on February 8.
