The eighth installment in the Saw series hits theaters this Friday after a seven-year absence with Jigsaw. The delay between films might be cause for concern to some audiences, as the film could feel completely different from the original series, but Jigsaw star Mandela Van Peebles promises the film captures what fans liked about the original series in addition to including many twists and turns.

"It's pretty under wraps," the actor admitted to ComicBook.com about how much of the film he could discuss. "I just would love to say everything about the past Saw films that keeps you coming back, we have that. I don't know if you still remember those movies, but twists and surprises and unexpected turns are a really big thing for me in horror movies."

The actor pointed out that, while some audiences might have regularly checked out the film to see its scenes of violence, the original series also brought together an intricate narrative to reveal the killer and their motivations.

"It's not just about the blood squirting, I gotta feel like, 'Oh man. I did not see that coming,'" Van Peebles detailed.

Since its debut in 2004, the Saw series featured a killer putting victims in various traps that forced someone to choose between sacrificing part of their body or face certain death. The intention was to teach people who took their lives for granted the value of life, as the original killer, dubbed "Jigsaw," started his mayhem after being diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Seeing as the original killer died ten years ago, according to the narrative, a copycat has apparently continued his mission.

"This Jigsaw has some nice surprises around the corner, and I'm looking forward to it," Van Peebles promised. "I think it's going to be my favorite Saw movie, with or without me acting in it. I feel like I would think the same. And I haven't even seen it all the way through yet, but just being on set, seeing the set design. The traps we have this time around are, I mean, ridiculous. The designs they did were out of this world. Really talented people working on set. Like I said, the technology available, everything is just coupled together with the twists in the script. I think we've got something here, and I'm excited for it."

Jigsaw hits theaters this Friday.
