Agents of SHIELD fans will have to wait a while to discover exactly who one of the show's newest cast members is playing.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, SHIELD executive producers Jed Whedon and Jeff Bell were asked about Dove Cameron, who officially joined the series earlier this week. According to Whedon, the Disney Channel alum's role will not be what audiences expect.
"Who Dove is playing is a wait and see." Whedon explained. "All I can say is we were looking at different people and she surprised us. The role she’s playing, she’s not an obvious fit for."
“But she came in and nailed it," interjected Bell.
“She’s perfect for the role," added Whedon. "So we’re excited about it.”
While Whedon and Bell did not reveal much else about Cameron's role, they did reveal one part that she will not be playing. According to Bell, she will not be playing Sinara, the Kree woman seen in SHIELD's season five trailer. That role will actually be played by The Expanse's Florence Faivre.
Cameron has accumulated a fan following through her work on the Disney Channel, playing both roles in Liv & Maddie and starring in the Descendants franchise. The actress has been tangentially tied to the world of comic book television for a few months now, with Cameron's fans frequently campaigning for her to play Riverdale's Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
The two-hour Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Season Five premiere airs Friday, December 1st at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
