Fans have taken a liking to the crew of the Ghost on Star Wars Rebels, spotting easter eggs of the ship and their droid companion Chopper appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But some fans wonder if one of the characters has a larger connection to the sequel trilogy, theorizing that Ezra Bridger could be one of the new characters in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Director Rian Johnson was asked point blank if Benicio del Toro’s new character nicknamed “DJ” is actually Ezra or if they have any connection.
“He’s his own person,” Johnson answered on Good Morning America. “DJ is his own person.”

Johnson also stressed that “DJ” is what the character is called in the movie and that it stands for something, hinting that it would be a big reveal when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters.
It’s not going to be Disk Jockey, but there are other terms on the table such as “Dark Jedi,” which could be a different spin on the “Gray Jedi” we’ve been getting hints about.
