In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans got to meet a whole new generation of heroes and villains alongside the returning characters everyone loves. And for the actors playing those characters, entering the Star Wars galaxy was a daunting prospect.

But Adam Driver revealed he got some advice from his on-screen mother Carrie Fisher while backstage at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015. Driver revealed the story to GQ, telling them Fisher's words of wisdom.

"The whole cast was downstairs in a conference room, talking through what's supposed to happen at this big event. She was like, 'Just pretend you're down to earth. People love that shit.'" said Driver. "So now I pretend I'm down to earth and you know what? People really do love that shit. They eat it up."

Fisher had a profound impact on her fellow cast mates, and Driver admitted that he was affected by the news of her passing late last year. Though he wouldn't go into details, he said her death was a surprise.

"It's hard to talk about it without saying generic things," Driver said. "Like, 'It's shocking,' but it was. Or 'It's incredibly sad,' which it is. I mean, it is all of those things."

Fisher was a source of wisdom on the Star Wars set for Driver's co-stars, as well. She even doled out dating advice to Daisy Ridley.

Though her character's story might not be cleanly wrapped up in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson promised the new film does Leia justice.

"Having these scenes in the film recontextualize tragically with her not being here anymore, it's incredibly emotional," said Johnson in an interview with USA Today. "For the next few months, seeing the fans … process the loss and celebrate her as Leia one last time, it's going to be intense.

"I think it's going to be really sad but really joyful, I hope," Johnson said. "She really kicks (butt) as General Leia, and I'm happy for that."

Fans will get to see for themselves when Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15.
