Riverdale heads back to television screens tonight - and KJ Apa just teased what fans can expect.

In an interview with Live with Kelly and Ryan, Apa previewed Riverdale's upcoming sophomore season - with a longer episode order allowing the show to dive into a darker tone.

"This season's a lot darker." Apa explained. "We have a bigger order this season, so we're doing 22 episodes, so the fans are going to be loving that. But yeah, there's so much more that we're doing."

So what exactly is the show bringing to the table in its second season? Well for one thing, it will have the official arrival of Hiram Lodge, played by Ripa's real-life husband Mark Consuelos.

"Like obviously, Mark is on the show now, which is awesome." Apa teased. "We've got some cool stuff as well between Archie and Hiram, too. Because Archie goes out with Hiram's daughter, Veronica, so there's some stuff that's going on there."

Apa is the latest Riverdale cast member to reference the new change in tone, with his costar Lili Reinhart saying the same in a recent interview.

"Season two is a lot more twisted in a way, and just kind of naughtier and sexier," Reinhart said. "But, also just more messed up. It's on a whole other level, and fans are going to get really sucked right into these new story lines and these relationship problems."

Fans will get to see how all of that commences when Riverdale season two premieres Wednesday, October 11th, at 8/7c on The CW.
