Scott Derrickson, who worked with Hawke on Sinister, is directing the Marvel Studios film which adapts one of Marvel Comics’s most important supernatural characters.

Hawke, for his part, praised Derrickson, comparing the director to Hitchcock and saying that he knows how to make a great “scary movie.” Asked whether he’d take the call if offered the Doctor Strange job, Hawke answered, “I’d take it from him.”

In 2012, Hawke starred in Before Midnight, the fourth film to feature Hawke and Julie Delpy as the star-crossed lovers Jesse and Celine. It was the third-highest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes in 2013 and the highest-scoring film that opened in more than 150 theaters.
Doctor Strange is expected in theaters on July 8, 2016.
