Amazing Spider-Man 2: Alternate End To Final Green Goblin Fight

The best thing that came from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is that its failure led to Spidey joining the Marvel cinematic universe. Thanks, Marc Webb!

Before we move to greener pasture, let's take a look at several behind-the-scenes stills from set photographer Niko Tavernise. These newly-released images are of the never-before-seen, but much talked about, alternate scenes that proceeded the death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone).

In the theatrical version, when Green Goblin/Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) and Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) have their final confrontation in the clock tower, Green Goblin is knocked unconscious. We never see him wake up and Peter gets to cry his eyes out uninterrupted.

But originally, Green Goblin was conscious when Gwen fell to her death. And when Peter learned that Gwen had died he sobbed. His waterworks elicits a mocking laughter from the Green Goblin and that makes Peter snap. He then takes out his anger on Green Golbin, pummeling within an inch of his life.

The Clocktower. #SpiderMan beaten but not beat. This was my all time favorite set. Our mad genius production designer, Mark Friedberg who I also worked on Noah with built it with his crew. It was the perfect balance of destruction and detail and our Cinematographer #DanMindel's lights. Couldn't shoot enough of this place.
