This past summer, Akiva Goldsman put together a writers room — Ken Nolan, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Robert Kirkman, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Zak Penn, Jeff Pinkner, Lindsey Beer and Christina Hodson — to brainstorm story ideas for Paramount and Hasbro’s Transformers film franchise. According to Deadline, It went so well that Paramount and Hasbro would like Goldsman to duplicate the process with G.I. Joe and Micronauts.

Now that Goldsman will be supervising writers rooms for G.I. Joe and Micronauts, he will be too busy to pen the script for Transformers 5. Deadline says Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will write the Transformers 5 screenplay with Black Hawk Down scribe Ken Nolan.

Not sure where that leaves the status of G.I. Joe 3. Last we knew, D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four) was still attached to direct it and Paramount had brought in a third scribe, Aaron Berg (Section 6), to rewrite the script that had previously been worked on by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Evan Daugherty and Shooter‘s Jonathan Lemkin.

As for Micronauts, it was a toyline created in the 1970s by the Japanese company Mego (now owned by Hasbro) that consisted of 3.75-inch-tall action figures. The backstory on them was that the Micronauts came from a small alien world and when they arrived on Earth they disguised themselves as toys. The toyline sparked interest from Marvel’s Bill Mantlo, who along with Michael Golden, created a comic book series for them that was first published in 1979.
