Netflix’s Sense8 wasa mixed bag for many viewers. The Matrix creators The Wachowskis launched an ambitious blockbuster-style sci-fi saga, which revolved around eight strangers all over the world finding out they are mentally connected. That premise allowed The Wachowskis to provide commentary on topics like race, gender, sexuality, spirituality, geo-politics and so much more.

However, after a somewhat turbulent buildup, Sense8 season 1 ended on an exciting note, leaving those who invested in the whole ride excited for what’s to come in season 2, which debuts on Netflix in May.
Before that, however, fans are getting a special treat, in the form a Sense8 holiday special, which will premiere in December. In order to give fans a little tease of what’s to come in that holiday-themed special, Lana Wachowski has put together a little trailer/featurette.
Granted, most of the video is Lana talking to viewers, explaining the personal nature of wanting to tell a holiday-themed story. It’s also a nice bridge piece for seasons 1 and 2, it seems, as we catch (brief) glimpses of our heroes(?) all reestablished after the hectic events of the season 1 finale.
Even with Riley and Will safe, not everything is happy for the sensates; as Wachowski describes, the holidays carry the duality of making people feel togetehr and alone, all at once. For a show like Sense8 it’s actually an intriguing sci-fi take on a very resonant idea – which is why we, like many other fans, will be watching.

The Sense8 holiday special airs on December 23rd, with season 2 to follow in May 2017, only on Netflix.
