Whovians, prepare yourselves! It has been awhile since the Doctor has graced our televisions, but the Time Lord is preparing to make a comeback. After a brief hiatus, Doctor Who will be returning for its tenth season next year with Peter Capaldi bringing the 12th Doctor back to life. The alien will be joined by a brand-new companion named Bill, and now the BBC has just released the first teaser trailer for the new season as a holiday gift.

The minute-long trailer gives fans their first in-depth look at Bill. Pearl Mackie was cast to play the new companion after Jenna Coleman exited the series last year. Season 10 will feature the Doctor and Bill as they go on intergalactic adventures with another familiar character Nardole (Matt Lucas).

Of course, Bill looks properly stunned throughout the teaser. The character has just boarded one of the galaxy’s most test spacecrafts, and the Doctor is ready to pilot the TARDIS wherever it needs to go. Bill seems more than ready to follow the older man across time and space, but she may start to have a few reservations once she runs into the Daleks for the first time.

You have to admit; The threat of extermination is enough to make anyone second-guess their vacation options.

Today, Doctor Who will make a brief return to television thanks to its annual Christmas special. “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” is the newest holiday event in Doctor Who‘s long history, and you can check out its synopsis below:

“This Christmas sees the Doctor join forces with a masked Superhero for an epic New York adventure. With brain-swapping aliens poised to attack, the Doctor and Nardole link up with an investigative reporter and a mysterious figure known only as The Ghost. Can the Doctor save Manhattan? And what will be revealed when we see behind the mask?

Peter Capaldi stars as the Doctor, Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids, Little Britain) as Nardole, Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) as Grant and Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) as an investigative journalist.

The special is written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark).”
