Spoilers for tonight’s Riverdale!

Tonight’s Riverdale saw a wealth of bombshells that further complicated the lives of the Cooper and Blossom families. But, to some viewers’ surprise, it also led to a somewhat positive dynamic between Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart).
As Cheryl learned that Betty’s sister Polly (Tiera Skovbye) was pregnant with Jason’s baby, she developed a sort of softer side to both of the sisters, particularly to Betty.
According to Petsch, this unlikely relationship between the two girls will only further develop as the season goes on.
“The more you learn throughout the season,” Petsch revealed to ComicBook.com, “the tighter that Cheryl & Betty get. There’s a lot of things that tie them together in very strange ways, and that’s the most I can really tease of that, and they become allies.”
But how will their dynamic compare to the tight-knit friendship of Betty and Veronica (Camila Mendes)? Petsch reassures that Cheryl and Betty’s relationship will be something a little more complex.
“[They’re] not allies like Betty & Veronica, but they become allies in their own right, that Cheryl’s still mean but she’s finding her own way. Betty’s trying to help her, but they’re also coming together to work on something.”
It’s safe to assume that that something will involve the situation with Polly, if tonight’s episode is any indication. Upon discovering that her parents were conspiring to take Polly’s baby away from her, Cheryl ran to the group and helped Betty find Polly other living arrangements.
But, as was seen in an earlier episode when Cheryl and Betty teamed up to find and destroy the school’s burn book, the two don’t entirely seem to be opposed to conspiring on other accounts. Riverdale fans will just have to wait and see where Cheryl and Betty’s dynamic does end up going.
When a major piece of evidence is mysteriously destroyed, new rumors begin to swirl as to who was really behind Jason’s murder. Tensions build when Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) father returns to the fray and it’s revealed that he and Fred (Luke Perry) have some unresolved issues between them. Meanwhile, Veronica (Camila Mendes) takes matters into her own hands after her fight with Hermione (Marisol Nichols). Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) approaches Betty (Lili Reinhart) with an unexpected proposal that leaves Betty torn. KJ Apa and Madchen Amick also star.
Allison Anders directed the episode written by Aaron Allen.
