To say that Stranger Things dominated the world of pop culture following its release last summer would be an understatement, taking the world by storm and winning accolades from audiences and critics alike. The young cast of the Netflix original series revealed details about what to expect from the second season, pointing out that the horror themes will be even more prevalent in the new episodes.

The first season of Stranger Things combined elements of Amblin-style kid-friendly adventure, science fiction, drama, and humor all into the eight-episode event. There was plenty of horror, of course, from the Demogorgon to the Upside Down, and it sounds like there’s plenty more where that came from in Season 2.
Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the series, spoke with PEOPLE about what to expect in the new season, arriving on October 31.
“I think this season will be a lot more dark. A lot more horror-oriented. I think people are going to like it more than the first season,” Wolfhard explains.
He added, “There are going to be some challenges that the characters face that are real, that are disturbing.”
Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin on the series, also shed some insight on what fans can expect.
“The great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own. You’re going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what’s been going on,” Matarazzo explained.
“I think they’re all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend [Will] is back and he’s not acting like their best friend anymore. He’s changed,” the actor explained.
Little is know about what to expect from the upcoming season, other than it takes place a year after the events of the first season. Most of the cast will be returning for the season and, even though she was presumed missing at the end of the season, Millie Brown will once again portray Eleven.
The new season will consist of nine episodes, one longer than the debut season, but still shorter than many other Netflix series, which range from 10-13 episodes a season.
