If you have been keeping up with Star Wars Rebels, then you know the fandom is still dying to know if Ahsoka – well – died. The acclaimed series saw the beloved Jedi walk towards her supposed death when she faced off against Darth Vader, her former master. The pair clash in a Sith temple on Malachor where she declares she’s no longer a Jedi, but her choice to stall Vader all but cemented her death. Still, fan-theories have been created which explain how Ahsoka might have survived the ordeal, but a popular explanation just got shut down.

Over on Twitter, the creator of Star Wars Rebels toyed with fans with a recent post. Dave Filoni shared a rough sketch in honor of his birthday as “clarification” for fans. The image, which can be seen below, shows Ahsoka standing before a giant white wolf while an owl flies above her. The two animals are labeled as such, but a text bubble is seen pointing to Ahsoka which reads, “Not the wolf.”

If you don’t know much about Star Wars Rebels, then the diagram means nothing, but the show’s fandom knows exactly what Filoni is talking about here. Since the end of season three, one popular fan-theory regarding Ahsoka’s survival has suggested she may return in the form of a wolf.

The theory was born after a set of digital trading cards were released for the Star Wars: Card Trader app. The collection is meant to show the final moments of the controversial finale, and it sees Ahsoka go on a weird journey. The former Jedi walks through an archway before she spots an owl-ish creature flying above her. Finally, the set’s last card shows Ahsoka standing in the middle of a ring comprised of wolves.

Fans have clung to the Ahsoka Lives fan-theory for some time now, so some are a bit perturbed to hear Filoni’s denial. However, fans should remember that the creator likes to tease his followers. The image isn’t a total denial of the theory; Ahsoka may not come back as a wolf, but there could still be a connection between the animal and herself.

For now, fans will have to wait and see just how Ahsoka’s storyline finds resolution in Star Wars Rebels. The show is set to return with its fourth and final season soon enough, so Filoni will hopefully give fans an answer about the character once and for all.
