We’ve been hearing the rumors for what seems like ages that Activision was considering bringing back the Call of Duty franchise to the Nintendo Switch, namely with this year’s Call of Duty: WWII. A hint appeared earlier in the year that Beenox might be working on a report, with a later story indicating that this wasn’t the case, and there are no plans to bring the game to Switch โ “not currently,” anyway.

It appears that Activision has caught wind of these rumors as well, and reached out directly to us this afternoon to tell us, once and for all, if Call of Duty: WWII would be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
For those of you that were hoping to see it, bad news.
“Call of Duty: WWII will not be coming to the Nintendo Switch,” an Activision rep explained by phone today. However, they didn’t go into detail as to why the game wouldn’t be coming to the Switch.
Activision has shown support for the system with its launch, releasing Skylanders: Imaginators at the system’s launch โ even without the need of one of its trademark portals. Since then, however, we haven’t seen much from the publisher, and it’s unknown what it could be bringing to the system next.
In the past, Bungie addressed that Destiny 2 wouldn’t be coming to the system, but mainly because there were “no plans” for it at this time. More specifically, it had to do with the online architecture of the system.
And that may be a pretty safe bet as to why Call of Duty isn’t coming to the system just yet. The series has a heavy reliance with its online community, and both Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Ghosts weren’t that heavily supported on the Wii U, despite local co-op features. So Activision’s reasoning does make sense, though the introduction of Nintendo’s Online service could introduce new possibilities once 2018 rolls around.
For the time being, the folks at Sledgehammer will continue to focus on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC ports of the game, which are set to arrive on November 3rd. As for when Switch will get a new Activision gameโฆwe’ll just have to wait and see.
