Attack on Titan recently finished up its second season, but fans can’t get the series off their mind. The gritty anime turned its spotlight towards smaller-time soldiers with its recent comeback, and one of those leads is officially Hajime Isayama’s favorite character.

Recently, the Attack on Titan creator did an interview in Japan with Febri about his beloved story. The magazine did a piece on the anime’s return and ongoing manga serialization. It was during his interview that Isayama revealed who his favorite Attack on Titan character is, and it is not Eren – seriously.

“Reiner,” Isayama answered. “As time progresses, my favorite character keeps shifting. My favorite is Reiner at the moment – I want to draw more and more of Reiner.”

Anime fans of Attack on Titan have learned a lot about Reiner since April, so they can see the character’s appeal. Much of the show’s second season focused on Reiner and his friend Bertolt as the two revealed their true identities to the Survey Corps. During a casual talk with Eren, Reiner confessed he was the Armored Titan and that Bertolt was the fearsome Colossal Titan whom humanity feared.

Attack on Titan has yet to do a very deep dive into Reiner and his backstory, but Isayama seems game for such an arc. Currently, Reiner’s appearance in the manga is different from what any anime-only fan would recognize. Following the ‘Clash Of The Titans’ arc, Reiner returns to his home of Paradis with Bertolt to train. As Attack on Titan progresses, the blonde Titan Shifter becomes a more formidable foil for Eren Yeager as the two grew in tandem. Currently, Reiner is still alive in the manga, so Isayama has room to play with the soldier and his Armored Titan roots if he’d like.
