Now that the semi-prequel Kong: Skull Island has since been released, Legendary is back to work on the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 film, with director Mike Dougherty at the helm for Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
โจA new tweet from the director revealed the film will follow up on the post-credit scene from Kong: Skull Island, which hinted at Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah having major roles in the sequel.
Now Dougherty’s call sheet for the sequel’s production confirms they’re already hard at work getting the major monsters into the film.

In the reboot of Godzilla, the gigantic lizard defended Earth’s population, despite constant missile barrages from various militaries, from a pair of MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) who fed on nuclear armaments and attempted to mate. After killing both creatures, Godzilla returned to the sea while a grateful news media dubbed him “king of the monsters.”
Godzilla is set to return in a big way in the sequel when he’ll take on some of his most famous adversaries, but all of this seems to be preamble for the future installment that will see Kong return in the present day to take on his scaled foe.
Godzilla vs. Kong will be directed by Adam Wingard. โจโจBut first, we still have to deal with a three headed dragon and two flying monsters and hopefully survive the devastation. Welcome to the MonsterVerse, where a job in construction is probably a lucrative endeavor.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters is scheduled for a March 22, 2019 release.
