Legends of Tomorrow’s Franz Drameh: Jax and Stein Will Not See Eye to Eye in Season 3

Despite two seasons of building a stable relationship between Jefferson Jackson (Franz Drameh) and Martin Stein (Victor Garber), the two halves of Firestorm will disagree on how much Firestorm is really needed in season 3 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

When the season starts, a new group known as the Time Bureau, under the leadership of a Rip Hunter who has been as changed by time as the rest of the world, will be operating, leaving the Legends feeling a little bit redundant. While some of the heroes will take that as a challenge, Drameh says Martin would like to spend a little time with his family.

“We’ve developed a relationship where we’re kind of in sync,” Drameh told ComicBook.com. “We’ve gotten over our butting heads to a degree and now we’ve got the friendship, we’ve got that bond worked out. However, in season 3, we find ourselves in different viewpoints. At the start of the season, Martin is happy with a little bit more of a life aside from being Firestorm. In season 2, he discovered he had a daughter; he messed up time and had a daughter, so he has to deal with the ramifications of that and Jax is still wanting to be Firestorm, so there’s a bit of a dilemma there.”

That is similar to something executive producer Phil Klemmer recently said, indicating that Stein was interested in making up for some of the time lost with his daughter, who was born as the result of a time abberation in season 2 and with whom Stein has not had the opportunity to spend much time.

Jax, meanwhile, is “in full quantum mechanic mode,” Drameh said.

Without Rip, though, will he find the time to study up some more — or to learn new things from the abberation-powered tech that the Time Bureau will likely have at their disposal? That one sounds like a hard “no.”

“I don’t know if I’ll be learning any new tricks of the trade from the Time Bureau,” Drameh said. “They’re our rivals. The team, we don’t like these guys. They’ve come in and they’re this slick, well-polished, well-oiled type of group who think they can do what the Legends do. So obviously we have a big competition with them.”

After the defeat of Eobard Thawne and his equally nefarious Legion of Doom, the Legends face a new threat created by their actions at the end of last season. In revisiting a moment in time that they had already participated in, they have essentially fractured the timeline and created anachronisms – a scattering of people, animals, and objects all across time! Our team must find a way to return all the anachronisms to their originaltimelines before the time stream falls apart. But before our Legends can jump back into action, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his newly established Time Bureau call their methods into question. With the Time Bureau effectively the new sheriffs in town, the Legends disband – until Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) discovers one of them in the middle of his well-deserved vacation in Aruba. Seeing this as an opportunity to continue their time travelling heroics, Sara (Caity Lotz) wastes no time in getting the Legends back together.

We reunite with billionaire inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), the unconventional historian-turned-superhero Nick Heywood (Nick Zano), and Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh), who together form the metahuman Firestorm. Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on October 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following the season 4 premiere of The Flash on The CW.
