Check out the first trailer for Blade Runner Black Out 2022 above; the series will be debuting on Crunchyroll starting September 26th, and comes by way of Cowboy Bebop’s Shinichiro Watanabe,
In the video, Watanabe describes how Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner was a film that influenced him greatly as an anime director. Getting the chance to make an anime story that would connect the original Blade Runner with its sequel was a dream come true.
The title of the anime short puts it a few years after the events of the original Blade Runner, which is set in 2019. Hopefully, the short will help fill in the gaps of what happened to send Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) into hiding, and established the new world order in which Blade Runner 2049 is set.
Blade Runner Black Out 2022 will air on Crunchyroll on September 26th. Blade Runner 2049 will be in theaters on October 6th.
