Dragon Ball Super To Bring Battle Royale To ‘Universal Survival’ Arc

It looks like combat is getting shaken up over on Dragon Ball Super. Last month, the anime entered its newest arc after the ‘Universal Survival’ saga kicked off. The explosive installment is slated to pit the anime’s multiverse against one another in order to keep their homes from being destroyed. For Universe 7, Goku is leading the pack now that several of the team’s fighters have taken part in an exhibition tournament. But, in the coming weeks, fans will see a different kind of fight take place on the show.

In the latest episode of Dragon Ball Super, the anime revealed some major changes it was making to the Tournament of Power. On behalf of the Omni-Kings, the Great Priest spoke to the at-risk universes about how the martial arts contest would be set up.

The event will take place in the World of Nothing in a fairly massive arena. The rules are simple enough: fighters must knock their opponents out of the arena to win. Using weaponry is a no-no, and killing your opponent is absolutely not allowed. The tournament will test fighters based on their power alone, so no fancy flying tricks will keep them safe.

So far, everything sounds perfectly normal. That is, until the Great Priest says the event will be held battle royal style.

According to the godly aid, the tournament will only consist of one round. The match is said to last about 48 minutes and will see all 80 fighters from the eight participating universes fight. For a team to win the match, their universe must have the most contestants still remaining when the round ends.

It’s not surprising to learn that the Gods of Destruction are not too pleased by the rules, but Beerus seemed more distraught than others. The feline fighter knows his team is a powerful one, but Beerus is also aware how much Goku resists teamwork. And, well – it looks like this arc of Dragon Ball Super will be giving the Saiyan a crash-course on that subject.

Dragon Ball Super recently kicked off the ‘Universal Survival’ saga. You can check out the brief synopsis for it below:

As for its start date, the new sage is slated to premiere on February 5, 2017. The “Universal Survival” saga will be part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
