The gullible, overpowered Saiyan is the de facto hero of Akira Toriyama’s long-running series. Introduced decades ago, Goku has become an icon within the anime community, and his horde of comrades have also become well-known. Fighters like Vegeta and Piccolo have even threatened to overtake Goku at times, but the franchise still remains stubbornly focused on the down-home hero.

Still, there are plenty of side characters to explore in the Dragon Ball multiverse. After all these years, it is about time fans got to learn a bit more about the hidden histories of their favorite characters. So, here at ComicBook, we are listing five of the most wanted spin-off anime series for the Dragon Ball franchise.

Cabba, The Savior Of Universe 6

For Goku and Vegeta, the pair stand as the last remaining Saiyans following Freeza’s genocide. Their story is a sad one for those in Universe 7, but Universe 6 has a different story to tell. In that world, the Saiyan’s origin planet still exists, and it houses a Saiyan fans met during Dragon Ball Super. A young boy named Cabba is introduced to Goku and Vegeta during the ‘Universe 6’ saga, and fans learned how the boy’s Saiyan race evolved next to the other. The two breeds seem to be total opposites of each other, and fans would no doubt be interested in exploring the Planet Sadala for themselves.

Goten & Trunks Superhero Squad

Some fans may have face-palmed when Goten and Trunks banded together against Kid Buu during Dragon Ball Z, but the pair were just being kids. In fact, the half-Saiyans are really just a pair of silly, energy-filled brats who want nothing more than to train like their fathers. Over the course of Dragon Ball, the two heroes have gotten a chance to fight some big baddies, but fans would surely love to see more of Goten and Trunks. If a spin-off anime came out where the pair took on odd superhero jobs, nobody would complain.

King Piccolo v Mutaito, Roshi, And Shen

In the original Dragon Ball anime, fans were able to learn about Master Roshi and his past for a brief moment. However, there are plenty fans who would like to see the snippet expanded upon. In the anime, audiences learned about Master Roshi’s training did alongside Shen under their teacher Mutaito. The trio worked hard to confront King Piccolo with tragic results, and audiences would love to learn about how Roshi came to learn martial arts. Oh, and where he became so perverted; That too!

Letโ€™s Make Yamcha A Badass Hero

Oh, Yamcha. You may be the butt of many Dragon Ball jokes and memes, but you are still one of the franchise’s founding figures. Over the years, Yamcha has become less known for his fighting skills and more for how easily he dies. However, Shonen Jump recently released a spin-off manga where Yamcha actually becomes the lead hero of the franchise – and fans would be lying if they said they didn’t want to see Yamcha fight Goku on the small screen.

Hercules & Mr. Buuโ€™s Epic Adventures

At its heart, Dragon Ball is both an action-packed shonen title and a gag series. Toriyama has said numerous times he would like to see Hercules and Mr. Buu get their own spin-off as the mismatched pair are too funny for words at times. The Earthly hero usually gets himself in all kinds of trouble, and Hercules’ only recourse is to bride Buu into helping him. But, if you were to really threaten the martial artist, then Buu would show you a side of himself that isn’t so nice.
