Berserk is Taking Over Japan With Official Anime Campaign

The Band of the Hawk might have tragically lost its creator, Kentaro Miura, but Berserk has continued thanks to the efforts of writer Kouji Mori and the artists of Studio Gaga. Unfortunately for Guts, his plans for revenge against Griffith and living a “normal life” outside the battlefield still seem exceptionally far away. As the manga keeps releasing new brutal chapters, Japan has been overrun with new promotional material for the dark franchise to hype what is coming for the Black Swordsman’s world. Needless to say, if you’re a fan of Berserk, this might be something worth checking out.

Berserk’s next manga chapter is set to arrive in the pages of Young Animal on September 12th, but the latest manga volume, Volume 43, has arrived in Japan. To help promote the latest compilation, the dark series has unleashed a new marketing campaign that sees the villainous Rakshas front and center. Even though Rakshas wants to eliminate Griffith, much like Guts, the new Band of the Hawk’s biggest assassin believes his best path to taking out the White Hawk is by joining the villainous group made up of humans and demons alike. You can check out the Rakshas posters that have landed in Japan below, promoting the latest Berserk volume.

Berserk’s Darkest Assassin

Griffith has never been stronger, which is bad news for Guts and his allies, but our heroes are making some progress despite the odds being stacked against them. In the latest manga storyline, the Black Swordsman’s group has found themselves in the Eastern Empire known as Kushan, a country that is on the same page when it comes to what they want to see happen to the White Hawk. In response to their amassing forces, Griffith sent Rakshas and countless demons at the nation, hoping to stop the problem before it came to Falconia.

During this onslaught, Rakshas came frighteningly close to eliminating Guts. Luckily, the Black Swordsman was saved by Silat, and Griffith’s top assassin was killed, though he had come back from the great beyond in the past. Despite Guts surviving, Kushan sees him as a threat to their nation thanks to the brand on his neck and has sentenced him to a strange exile, which takes the form of a mysterious cave. If Berserk’s past is any indication, Guts’ time in the cave is going to be no picnic for the protagonist.

Berserk’s manga might still be marching forward, with Mori and the Studio Gaga artists hoping to end the series in Kentaro Miura’s honor, but an anime adaptation announcement is still missing in action. The last time we witnessed Guts swinging the Dragon Slayer in animation was thanks to 2022’s Berserk: The Golden Age Arc – Memorial Edition. Compiling the footage from the film trilogy, the latest anime also added in footage that originally was left on the cutting room floor. Fingers crossed that the Band of the Hawk will eventually return to the screen, as there is plenty of manga material that has yet to be adapted.
