When it comes to the show’s voice acting, Asta is making ears bleed.

Fans have taken to Twitter in droves to comment on Black Clover‘s voice acting so far. The anime is only one episode in, but audiences are already done with the voice of Asta. Sure, the character is said to be a spunky one, but his voice never dials down from a full-on screech.

For those of you curious about Asta’s voice actor, the talent behind the lead isn’t a newbie by any means. The hero is being voiced by Shun Horie, and the actor has voiced several leads over the years. Horie has done voice work on series like The iDOLM@STER Side M, Nana Maru San Batsu, Whistle!, and more. Black Clover is Horie’s biggest project to date, so the actor may still be molding how Asta will sound.

As you can see below, fans have made it a point to question the vocal work on Black Clover. Many are hoping Asta will go mute before he lets out any more warbling screeches, but the anime may have reason to make its protagonist difficult at first. Even Naruto‘s first episodes were marred by the ninja yelling every three seconds, so Black Clover may use Asta’s voice as a way to mark his growing maturity.

For the sake of everyone’s ears, fans can only hope that is the case.
