After a careful introductory arc, things are finally starting to get moving with Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. The sequel anime has been light on plot since its premiered, but fans are about to learn more about the show’s titular hero. Boruto has repeatedly noticed there’s something off about his eye, and the boy is eager to learn what’s up. After approaching his mother about his occular jutsu, Hinata suggests Boruto learn more about his Hyuga heritage.

So, naturally, Boruto winds up challenging his aunt Hanabi to a fight. Like father, like son – you know?

This week, Boruto will return with “Proof of Oneself,” an episode which aims to determine whether the hero has inherited the Byakugan. The episode will pit Boruto against Hanabi Hyuga, one of the clan’s most powerful ninja. And, as you might expect, the practice match won’t go just as Boruto had hoped.

You can read the synopsis for “Proof of Oneself” below:

“A desperate practice match! Himawari and Naruto are present too Is Byakugan’s awakening a lie or a truth?!

Boruto goes in a practice match against his aunt, Hanabi. He does it so he can provide that he really did witness a shadow-like chakra and that he can activate the Byakugan. However, no matter how hard he tries, he cannot activate the Byakugan so will no one believe him?!

Do you believe your son?! Naruto thinks that Boruto’s statement was an attempt to get his father’s attention. But looking at how desperate his son is, he changes his mind and talks to his son, butโ€ฆ?!”

Following Boruto‘s last episode, evidence continues to mount against the hero having the Byakugan. Instead, it seems more and more likely the boy has inherited the Tensaigan. The ultra-rare occular jutsu can only be given to an ancestor of both the Otsutsuki and Hygua clans. Naruto has both to of those heritages running through his veins thanks to his dad and mom respectively. Now, it’s just a matter of time until Boruto confirms (or denies) the fan-theory so the show’s plot can continue to develop.
