Boruto Just Brought Back A Favorite Naruto Character

Warning! Spoilers for Boruto’s 16th episode lie below!

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations has been on air for a few months now, but the show still hasn’t introduced all of Naruto‘s biggest players. Heroes like Naruto and Shikamaru have played a major role in the sequel so far, but others have been left to wait for the spotlight. And, now, Rock Lee can proudly say he’s been brought into the new show’s fold.

Today, Boruto debuted its 16th episode, and the filler installment saw Rock Lee make a bold return to anime. The episode followed Boruto and his classmates as they prepared for a check-up exam at the Academy. Feeling pressured, Denki begins to train on his own with ninjutsu since he feels he lacks in that area, but things turn south when Metal Lee tries to train the boy.

During a wall climbing exercise, Metal Lee and Denki compete to see who can scale a cliff-face the fastest. Metal makes it far up, so he is unable to help Denki when the boy loses his grip. Falling to the ground, the boy prepares for the worst, but Rock Lee steps in to save the boy. The green-clad ninja scoops Denki up before putting him on the ground and squeezing him into one over-dramatic hug.

“Putting in extra training because you’re not strong in ninjutsu. You are absolutely in the throes of youth!” Rock Lee admits.

After crushing Denki with a hug, the Konoha 11 legend lets go and backs up to his now-confirmed son. Rock Lee gives a bit of advice to Denki as the kid struggles to hone his ninjutsu ahead of the Academy’s exam. Seeing himself in the boy, Rock Lee takes Denki and Metal under his wing to help train them for the upcoming test.

So, yes – that means Denki gets his own green bodysuit. The kid wears it well.
