No, it was to celebrate the birthday of Kim Seokjin.

Earlier today, BTS‘s fanbase came out in full force to wish the k-pop idol a very happy birthday. Jin, who turns 25 this year, has plenty to celebrate on his birthday. U.S. fans are still a day early to honor the December 4th date, but netizens from around the world gathered to send well-wishes to Jin as he enjoys the celebration the day of in South Korea.

As you can see below, dozens of fans are honoring Jin with the hashtag and educating others of who he is. BTS has gained a staggering number of fans in recent months thanks to their unprecedented takeover of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the group’s most recent single has continued to climb radio charts since its debut. With hundreds of people looking to learn more about BTS, Jin’s fans are all too ready to teach them just what ‘Worldwide Handsome’ really means, and they are breaking out all the memes to do so.

K-pop fans are reveling in the attention after Jin’s hashtag trended number one of Twitter’s global chart, but the rest of the world took some time to catch up on the joke. The hashtag spurred plenty of confusion as netizens started paying homage to their own celebrity idols who deserve nods for being handsome, and the mix-up has created some hilarious tweet exchanges as such.

If you are not familiar with the BTS joke, then you only have to look up Kim Seokjin to find an answer. The idol is part of one of South Korea’s most popular acts, and his status as a visual within the industry is well-known. In the past, Jin’s good looks have prompted viral social media hashtags, and such a movement happened earlier this year when BTS attended the Billboard Music Awards. The group was nominated for Top Social Artist, and Jin’s appearance on the red carpet led Twitter to ask just who the man was. When the singer was asked about the hashtag, Jin said he’s worldwide handsome when it comes to looks, and K-pop fans went on to designate that as the idol’s nickname.
