Akaza, the Upper Rank Three, plays a crucial role in the first installment of the trilogy as he challenges Tanjiro Kamado for a rematch. Wanting to take revenge for Kyojuro Rengoku’s death and stop the demon’s rampage, Tanjiro gives it everything he has, all the while being accompanied by Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira. Their fight is easily the biggest highlight of the show, but it also ends in the most heartbreaking way possible. The preview only shows a glimpse at Akaza’s past, which touched the hearts of many.
Akaza’s Backstory Is Revealed in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Film

Akaza was already a fan-favorite character since his unexpected appearance in the Infinity Train, and he continued to appear in the show every once in a while. However, we see him in action five years after the film’s release, and he appears even more unstoppable than before. The fight was brutal, and the Demon Slayer duo had their backs against the wall. Surprisingly, Akaza also gave it his all while fighting those two and was impressed by their skills.
While he had the upper hand for most of the fight, he ultimately tasted defeat as he regained his memories. As the fight draws near its end, Akaza remembers a part of himself that he had forgotten over a century ago. The life he led as Hakuji was heart-wrenching, and just when he finally turned it around after years of struggles, he went through something even more inexplicable. He remembers the face of the girl he was supposed to marry, someone he had been in love with since he was a child.
However, after tragedy struck, he lost everything he held dear in his life and had the misfortune of encountering Muzan. The fireworks scene in the promo highlights the promise the couple made to one another over a hundred years ago, but they were never able to fulfill it. As many would have guessed, Akaza became a demon not long after Koyuki’s death, and while he forgot everything about her and his past as Hakuji, he still carried fragments of her with him. Everything from his appearance to his Blood Demon Art to the names of his attacks is a reminder of her.
