It has been less than a year since Digimon returned for a special theatrical comeback, and the film series isn’t over yet. September will see the release of the fifth Digimon Adventure Tri. movie. The feature’s first trailer has just been released, and the tense footage confirms the DigiDestined children have never faced a challenge as big as the one they do now.

The trailer, which can be seen above, focuses on Meicoomon and her partner Meiko. The younger girl is still recovering from an injury she received before her Digimon went berserk, and she isn’t sure whether she can be around her friend anymore. With Meicoomon locked up, Taichi and the original DigiDestined group try to show Meiko that her fate is inseparable from her partner now.

“We are not the chosen children,” the trailer explains. “We are the children chosen.”
As the footage goes on, fans get to see more of Meicoomon’s distorted power as she battles the virus locked with her. The rest of the real world also begins to undergo changes as the digital world becomes increasingly chaotic. The group of DigiDestined friends can only watch in horror as they stumble upon one realization: the two worlds are merging, and there is little they can do about it.
The summary of Digimon Adventure Tri. – Symbiosis can be read below, but be warned! It contains mild spoilers:
“After witnessing her partner Mochizuki Meiko is hurt by a mysterious man who dresses like Gennai, Meicoomon begins to rampage once again.
Meicoomon disappeared into the Real World, who’s the distorted itself. With her holding such overwhelming power, it’s the key to destroy the world…
Hackmon appears in front of Nishijima Daigo and Professor Mochizuki, and reveals the truth.
He says Homeostasis itself is trying to maintain the harmony of the worlds, it considers Meicoomon has become way too strong, a very dangerous existence right now, they are trying to cut it down. As the rampaging Meicoomon appeared, the count down to collapse of the Real World has begun.
Everywhere has incidents occuring one after another. Digimon who appears through the Distortion has been waiting for that time to come…
The Chosen Children return to the Real World, alienated the abnormal state of the Digital World, but they and their partner Digimon are being chased by people. While they are isolated with no support from people and desperately looking for breakthroughs, Meiko continues to worry alone.

The previous Digimon Adventure Tri. films are currently streaming on Crunchyroll. The site has released each film in four episodic bits. The Digimon Adventure Tri. films were created to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Digimon Adventure anime which debut nearly 20 years ago. The original series by Akiyoshi Hongo ran for 54 episodes between 1999-2000 and was a huge success in the United States. The new film series will collect 6 features, and the first Digimon Adventure Tri. film will soon have its English dub released on Blu-ray and DVD.
