Akira Toriyama may have tried to make Androids 17 and 18 unrepentant villains, but fans can't say they are sad to see the characters hanging around. The siblings were displaced as baddies when Cell reared his ugly freckled head, and the androids have since moved on with their lives. The powerful fighters have married, had children, and even gotten jobs - but their love of fighting can't be contained. And, in just a few weeks, Dragon Ball fans will get to see Android 17 return to the frontlines in a new anime arc.
That's right! The chic android will be taking a break from his work as a park ranger to help save his universe. Android 17 will team up with his sister Android 18 to help Universe 7 make a name for itself in front of the Omni-Kings. The all-powerful beings are overseeing the Tournament of Power, and the event will see its losers and their universes destroyed. Naturally, Android 17 isn't about to let that happen, and fans now know then the man will be making his comeback.
In the most recent issue of Shonen Jump, the magazine published a teaser page dedicated to Android 17's return. The advert gives fans a still image of the character as he'll appear in Dragon Ball Super, and it confirms Android 17 will return in episode 86. As such, the hero will make his first appearance on April 16th.
Before Android 17 makes his full comeback, fans will get to follow Goku on his journey to recruit the reclusive hero. In episode 85, the Saiyan will approach Dende to learn where Android 17 is hiding these days. You can check out the episode's synopsis below:
"Goku visits the god Dende in order to learn the location of Android No. 17. Meanwhile, the Kaiōshin of all the universes participating in the "Tournament of Power" gather in Universe 11."
Dragon Ball Super recently kicked off the 'Universal Survival' saga. You can check out the brief synopsis for it below:
"At Goku's request, the Omni-Kings' "Tournament of Power" martial arts tournament between universes now begins! …But this also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction. Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
