Dragon Ball Super has had its share of villains since it debuted, but the anime only just introduced a baddie who compares to those of Dragon Ball Z. Jiren finally showed off a fraction of his true strength during his fight with Goku as of late, and the Universe 11 warrior wrecked the Saiyan. However, there is still hope that Goku will win against the the Pride Trooper.

Fans can thank the Ultra Instinct form for that and here’s why:

Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami also airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.

Is Jiren Telepathically Kicking Ass?

This past weekend, fans watched as Goku took on a new form known as Ultra Instinct. The rare power allows the Saiyan to fight others without thinking; Goku’s actions are completely instinctive and take place without the hero even registering them. The form helped Goku push back against Jiren in the latter-half of their battle, but his stamina was so sapped that he ultimately lost. Jiren did seem mildly surprised by the power-up, but the Pride Trooper handled the moment with ease, but he might not be able to for long.

Once Goku gets better control over his Ultra Instinct form, then Jiren may not be able to dodge him so easily. After all, fans seem to think the hero relies on telepathy for such things.

During Dragon Ball Super‘s latest episodes, fans confirmed Jiren can use telepathy. The fighter had a moment with Belmod when the God of Destruction ordered the Pride Trooper to take out Goku. The conversation was done through telepathy, and Jiren has shown precognitive actions during other battles in the Tournament of Power as well.

If Jiren couples his insane strength with a telepathic defense, fans can get why Goku struggled against the fighter at first. Whis has said the Saiyan thinks too much when he fights, and Jiren could have figured out how to block and counter against Goku since he can read the hero’s mind. However, that will all change if Goku gets better with Ultra Instinct because it will keep Jiren from having anything to read off him.

Ultra Instinct Breakdown

In the past, Whis went to great lengths to explain how Ultra Instinct works. The angel told Vegeta and Goku the following when he was training them during the anime’s first arcs:

“You two are still thinking before you move rather than just moving. I’m afraid this habit is especially strong with you Vegeta. This overthinking is limiting your fighting speed. Messages can only travel through your nervous system so fast. When you rely on thoughts for physical action, you lose precious fighting time

You end goal should be to master having each part of your body think and move independently of the other parts. This is exceedingly difficult. In fact, not even Lord Beerus has mastered it and he’s a god. If you overcome the learning curve, you’ll be able to avoid any danger however severe.”

Whis predicted Goku will overcome his limits and assaults if he can just beat the learning curve that comes with Ultra Instinct. And, really – when is the angel ever wrong?

Ultra Instinct Is A Telepath’s Worst Nightmare

Ultra Instinct at its most powerful simply allows a fighter’s body to move of its own according. Jiren is used to taking down others who he can read, telegraph, and then block before unleashing his own ungodly ki. If Goku can prevent Jiren from reading his movements telepathically, then the Pride Trooper is one skill short.

Of course, Goku will still have to contend with Jiren’s strength. The gods noted the Universe 11 fighter is impossibly strong, and that will not change because of Goku. However, Jiren will be put on a more even playing field with Goku thanks to Ultra Instinct. The hero may very well gain a new form or even fuse with Vegeta in the hopes of bringing down Jiren once the Pride Trooper realizes his telepathic defenses are no longer working.
