Dragon Ball Super recently proved its ongoing arc isn’t one to laugh at. The anime‘s most recent episode debuted last Saturday, and the release saw an entire universe get wiped off the map. The Tournament of Power finally showed fans its stakes are very real, but it isn’t Zen-Oh whom fans fear right now.

No, that honor belongs to the Angels.

During the 98th episode of Dragon Ball Super, fans were keyed into something that may become an arc of its own one day. The episode followed Zen-Oh as he wiped Universe 9 from existence to everyone’s horror – well, mostly. The deities looked happy about the ordeal, but it was the Grand Priest and Mojito who piqued some attention.

In the episode, the two Angels are seen smirking at the loss of Universe 9. The Grand Priest did not seem phased by the loss of millions – if not billions – of lives. As for Mojito, the Angel of Universe 9 looked way to pleased by the incident.

There is no official word on how the Angels will play into Dragon Ball Super and its current arc, but fans have plenty of theories. Otakus have suspected the overseers will become villains soon enough, and the Tournament of Power has only bolstered such opinions. With how shady the Grand Priest has been acting, it is almost impossible to rule out the possibility.

Given Mojito’s reaction, some fans are wondering whether the Tournament of Power is setting up a new arc where the Angels head into a civil war of sorts. Some of the guardians may support the multiverse’s destruction for some yet-known reason, but others may push back on the plan. The Angels who oversee universes with capable Kai leaders will have no reason to see their universe’s get destroyed. However, there will be other Angels like Mojito who have grown tired of their underlings, so why not hatch a plot to simply get those universes erased?

Speculation about the Angels and their nefarious leanings is running rampant now, but Dragon Ball fans can only wait and see how things pan out for now. There’s no telling how Whis may find himself involved with his brethren’s plot should it be revealed, but fans hope he isn’t tied in with everything going on. The betrayal may be too much for Beerus to handle.

The synopsis of Dragon Ball Super‘s current saga can be read here: “According to an invitation that Goku gets, Zen-Oh (Omni King) is starting a martial arts tournament between all the universes called “Chikara no Taikai” (Tournament of Power). But it is the beginning of universal destruction. Something awaits the winners and losers of this tournament. What will become of this fierce team battle between each universe’s elite warriors?

Dragon Ball Super‘s “Universal Survival” saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
