In episode 104 of Dragon Ball Super, the Super Saiyan God transformation made its return. Goku has discovered a way to use the power, which at one point in time was thought to be a temporary power, similar to fusion. However, Goku can now tap into that power whenever he wants. This is the first time fans have seen the Super Saiyan God form since Goku’s fight with Beerus, as both Goku and Vegeta were thought to have surpassed the form.

However, in a recent Tweet by Toshio, a writer for Dragon Ball Super, he hinted that fans might see Vegeta use the Super Saiyan God transformation in the Tournament of Power.
Vegeta has never been seen using the transformation, with the time period where Goku and Vegeta trained with Whis, not showing either of the fighters delve into its power. When Freeza attacked, the two Saiyan’s went straight into their Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan forms, or Super Saiyan Blue for short. As a result, many fans believed that they would never see Vegeta use the Super Saiyan God form, as it had been surpassed. However, that is until the transformation has become relevant again.
In the manga, both Goku and Vegeta have been able to switch between Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue whenever they liked. However, this has only recently been introduced in the anime. As this switching between the two forms has finally been added to the anime, it is expected Vegeta will be able to use it in order to keep up with his rival, as he can do in the manga.
The Super Saiyan God transformation consumes a lot less energy than Super Saiyan Blue, however, it is weaker than the Blue form. In a battle royal such as this tournament, saving your energy is crucial. In addition, the Super Saiyan God form is faster than the Super Saiyan Blue form and when they are used together by switching between the two, they create the ultimate warrior.
