When it comes to Dragon Ball, fans have all sorts of unanswered questions. The long-running series has hundreds of episodes as well as films, video games, and more which expand its canon to all-new heights. One question which fans have been speculating about for years now is what exactly happens when the character Nappa goes Super Saiyan. The state is characterized by its insane power and gravity-defying blonde locks, but Nappa is notably bald. Now, fans have finally learned what all happens to the Saiyan, and it is better than they could have expected.

Years ago, the question of what would happen to Nappa came about with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3. The game debuted on the PlayStation 2 and featured a short dialogue scene where Nappa asked his comrade Vegeta the following: “Hey, uhโฆThink if I went Super Saiyan, my goatee would grow?”
Since then, the Dragon Ball fandom has gone a bit overboard with its art of the Nappa going Super Saiyan. The over-the-top photos show the burly character drowning in hair, but now fans know that Nappa’s hunch was right. When he goes Super Saiyan 3, his meager facial hair transforms into something truly majestic.
The revelation comes courtesy of Twitter user @MrTrikey who managed to spot the transformed character in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. The title is a newly released arcade title exclusive to Japan and is the seventh Dragon Ball Z: Data Carddass game. The video game has players use peripheral cards which have specific characters on them. These cards come with exclusive transformation which link up to the game and then can be used to take on other gamers. One such memento will let players witness the glory that is Super Saiyan Nappa while another will even let Goku’s (deceased) father Bardock go Super Saiyan 3.
Of course, this revelation may disappoint those fans who had hoped Nappa would spontaneously grow hair if he entered the state. According to Dragon Ball lore, the character did once have hair on his head. In the special Bardock: Father of Goku, Vegeta’s comrade could be seen sporting dark locks on top of his oblong head. However, that hair would be notably absent and replaced with facial hair in Dragon Ball Z. Maybe male-pattern baldness is a thing amongst Saiyans?

Either way, fans have their answer when it comes to Nappa and his Super Saiyan powers. When he enters the state, Nappa levels up his strength and his beard game in one single swoop. Since Super Dragon Ball Heroes is often canon-compliant, it looks like the mystery has been solved. Now, it is up to fans to update their fan-art and make some true masterpieces for the Internet to enjoy.
