Jujutsu Kaisen has shockingly returned with a brand new sequel series nearly a year after it came to an end, and the creator behind it all has revealed just how long this sequel will last in a new update shared with fans. Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen manga officially ended its run with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last December, but the franchise has still been firing off on all cylinders despite it. Akutami not only briefly returned with some special epilogue chapters revealing more of the characters’ fates after the ending, but has now come back with an official sequel continuing the story.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is an official sequel series taking place many years following the events of Jujutsu Kaisen, and introduces a new generation of Jujutsu Sorcerers and a major new shift to the world of the franchise. With Akutami returning to the pages of Shonen Jump with this shocking new sequel, the creator also revealed that it’s not going to have a very long run at all with an estimated “six months work” and “three volumes worth” of materials when it ends.
Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals How Long Modulo Sequel Will Be

“In the midst of Jujutsu Kaisen’s serialization, I was approached with the idea of a Jujutsu spin-off to be written by an author other than myself,” Akutami began in a special message shared with fans. “[B]ut I could not accept it at the time because I feared the name of my work would be spread in a way I couldn’t control due to the nature of the medium of manga.” Although the idea of an expansion didn’t sit with Akutami at first, the creator eventually came around to it, “But the offer gave me the opportunity to think about a lot of different ideas, like expanding on a part of the main story, refining some specific background setup, changing the time period, or even making a parallel story.”
So in turn, Akutami then came up with the idea for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, “Thus Modulo, which was actually the most crazy idea during its concept stage, came to fruition after going through serialization meetings.” But the sequel isn’t going to be around for long as the creator also states, “It’s a very short, intensely compact serialization. It’ll be about six months worth of work (if it’s not cancelled). About three volumes worth.” Which is likely going to be disappointed for fans who might have wanted even more.
What to Know for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

With Akutami revealing that the sequel will only be running for about six months, it means that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo will likely only have about 30-40 chapters before it all comes to an end. Gege Akutami writes the series while the art is provided by Cipher Academy creator Yuji Iwasaki. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo takes place at least 70 years following the end of the Culling Game, and follows Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren (who were first introduced in the epilogue chapters) as they have become full Jujutsu Sorcerers in their own right.
It’s yet to be revealed how the sequel might further tie back into the events of the original Jujutsu Kaisen series, but it’s already exciting as the debut chapter has added a major shake up that helps to fill in some gaps fans felt were lingering after the original series. But while we’re enjoying the sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen’s anime is also preparing for a comeback of its own as Season 3 premieres next January.
