If there’s one thing shonen fans tend to nitpick, it is animation. Over the years, countless shows have fallen prey to the anime fandom and gotten each of their clumsily drawn frames blasted. My Hero Academia has managed to avoid such a berating, and it is no surprise.

After all, the team at Bones Studios did reveal just why the show looks so good.

Over on Twitter, a screenshot taken from a special about My Hero Academia resurfaced. The image, which can be seen below, shows several of the anime’s staffers talking about its pilot episode. When one of them is asked how they are tackling the anime’s first episode, they had a stunning fact to reveal.

When it comes to typical anime premieres, a lot of drawings must be done. A normal show may have between 4,000 and 5,000 sketches to kick off its first or subsequent season. However, My Hero Academia did things a bit different. The anime had between 7,500 – 8,000 drawings sequenced to bring its first episode to life.

If you have seen the first episode of My Hero Academia, then you will know all that effort paid off. The anime is a visually stunning one, and its rich colors have impressed fans from all over the world. The show’s quality only increased in season two, and audiences saw just what Bones could do when it went all-out. The anime’s ‘U.A. Sports Festival’ arc spared no expense in animating Izuku Midoriya’s climatic battle with Shoto Todoroki. The fight became a talking point amongst anime fans, and audiences can bet the episode took more than 5,000 drawings to make.

For those who aren’t familiar with My Hero Academia, the manga by creator Kohei Horikoshi began publishing back in July 2014. Bones Studios adapted the series into an anime in 2016, and the series has quickly become a phenomenon. My Hero Academia takes place in a world full of people with quirks, which you might recognize as superpowers. Except Izuku Midoriya doesn’t have one.

Izuku Midoriya has always wanted to be a hero, but he was born without a quirk. When the world’s leading superhero All-Might chooses Izuku to be his successor, the boy’s world is turned upside-down as he gains a quirk, a new school, and a set of very dangerous enemies.
