One of the major standout Horror hits of the Summer has already confirmed Season 2 of the series is now in the works with Netflix. There has been quite a lot to watch with Netflix this Summer as a number of major series have hit the streaming platform, and with it has also dropped a ton of major releases that fans have loved to see. This has ranged a widespread number of different genres, and some have stood out from the rest of the pack. This is especially true for the number of cool anime that have made it to Netflix these past few weeks too.

The biggest new anime release of the Summer with Netflix was also the darkest anime of the Summer 2025 anime schedule. The Summer Hikaru Died offered anime fans a whole new kind of take on Horror (with just a dash of eroticism), and the final episode has aired this past weekend. But with the finale, it has also been confirmed that Season 2 of the anime is now in the works for a release in the future too. Check out the first look at The Summer Hikaru Died Season 2 below.
The Summer Hikaru Season 2 Announced Following Season 1 Finale
The Summer Hikaru Died Season 2 has been officially announced to be in the works, but a release date or window has yet to be revealed as of this time. CygamesPictures will once again be producing the animation for the second season, which will be a co-production between CyberAgent and Kadokawa. For now, you can catch the first season of the series now streaming with Netflix. To celebrate the new season’s announcement, Shuichiro Umeda (who voices the titular Hikaru) had the following to say about coming back for another season of the anime.
“Congratulations on The Summer Hikaru Died getting a second season!” Umeda began. “I’m truly happy. I can’t wait to spend more time with Hikaru and the others when we return to the recording booth. I’m also really looking forward to sharing this second season of the anime with all the fans. Thank you so much, as always, for your support!”
Chiaki Kobayashi, who voices the other half of the main duo Yoshiki Tsujinaka celebrated the announcement with a new statement shared with fans as well.

“Congratulations on the announcement of Season 2 of The Summer Hikaru Died!” Kobayashi began. “It’s not an exaggeration to say that the summer of 2025 was defined by this series for me. It was such a meaningful time, and I’m truly happy to see the story continue- and to once again portray Yoshiki Tsujinaka. Even with all of Yoshiki’s struggles and hardships, I’m eager to see where his journey goes next. I hope you’ll stay with us, and thank you as always for your support!” And these main two are going to continue to explore their ill-fated romance.
This series was a major blend of Horror and otherworldly tension together with a romance sparked between the central duo of characters. But as the series came to an end with its first season, it seems that the two of them are now heading into an even more uncertain future with this upcoming second season.
