One Piece Worries Fans With Shocking Last-Minute Delay

One Piece is now worrying fans with a shocking last minute delay reported ahead of the next issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. October is already going to be a rough month for One Piece fans as following some epic episodes of the anime showing off some of its biggest moments of the Egghead Arc thus far, the series is going to go on a lengthy two week break before its next actual new episode airs. But it seems those troubles are set to continue with Eiichiro Oda’s manga release of the series as well according to a new report.

One Piece Chapter 1162 is currently scheduled to release with Shonen Jump on Sunday, October 5th, but it seems like Eiichiro Oda won’t be making the scheduled release. As reported by @WSJ_manga on X, no concrete details have been provided but the manga is on a sudden break this coming week and won’t be hitting its scheduled release date. Notably, this kind of last-minute delay is worrying fans about Oda’s potential health as the demands of Shonen Jump have resulted in many health issues for prominent creators in the past.

It’s yet to be confirmed as to whether or not One Piece‘s manga will not be making its previously scheduled release date as it’s current still listed for that date with Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library as of this time. But this delay would be worrying if it means that Oda has been dealing with an illness of some sort that means he has not been able to complete work on the next chapter in time. But more so than the release of the chapter, fans are concerned about Oda himself.

One Piece‘s Eiichiro Oda has worried fans in the past as over the years the creator has shed light on his very demanding schedule for Shonen Jump. Because not only is the creator still releasing new chapters of the series (which is in the midst of its Final Saga), Oda has also been involved with the production of its many franchise releases such as Netflix’s ongoing live-action series, the weekly anime, a new anime remake in the works with Netflix and more all going at the very same time.

What Does This Mean for Shonen Jump?

It’s unfortunately been no secret that Shonen Jump demands quite a lot from its creators. Each one needs to maintain a weekly release pace, and only those creators who are established enough (with a popular enough fanbase) can even adapt their schedule in a different way. It’s led to the poor health of these creators, and that’s been even more in the spotlight as many of them have since passed away at younger ages than fans could have ever expected.

That’s not to say that’s the case with Oda, and nor does it mean fans are worrying to that extent with this delay, but it’s something to keep in mind about the Shonen Jump schedule as a whole. There have been shifts away from this in the past few years as now serializations are largely shorter than they were before, but it’s still not cutting to the core of the issue. But hopefully Oda is doing well, and this extra week is just what was needed to give him some much needed time to rest.
