Hello Kitty fans, unite! Sanrio has had a busy year in 2017, but don’t expect the pop culture company to slow down anytime soon. After bringing its newest adorable icon to U.S. audiences in January, Sanrio has made another major announcement regarding its brand. The cutesy retailer has confirmed it will be producing its own anime in 2017, and its premise will make you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

In this year’s latest issue of Sho-Comi, the magazine contained an advert which let fans know about Sanrio’s new anime. The show will adapt the company’s Sanrio Danshi initiative, and fans are already sounding off their excitement over the anime.

If you are not familiar with the Sanrio project, then you can catch up on its premise easily. The initiative tells the story of Kota Hasegawa as he goes through high school and hides his love for Sanrio’s Pom Pom Purin dog. However, the high school student eventually comes to terms with his obsession after he meets fellow classmates who also have a thing for Sanrio’s cuties.

Sanrio debuted its boy-focused manga in January 2016 and rolled out a merchandise line based on the chic characters in April. Currently, there are two manga series based on the characters in publication. The first follows the boys and their hijinks during everyday life. The second then introduces a heroine who the boys vie for. There’s even a smartphone game based on the Sanrio Danshi project over in Japan, and the boys’ voice actors released a song last year as well.
