Variety is reporting that the twelve-episode superhero series will debut on July 22nd on the Japanese public broadcaster NHK. For those outside of Japan, The Reflection will be simultaneously streamed worldwide via CrunchyRoll.

The series has a new description as well, revealing that it “follows the fight between superhero Xon and villain I-Guy, who are among those found to have gained special powers following a global disaster called the Reflection.”

Lee, best known for his legendary work with Marvel Comics, has had quite a hand in The Reflection. He even narrated the series’ most recent trailer, which you can watch above.

This isn’t the first time Stan Lee has collaborated with an anime studio. Lee worked with BONES to write the Heroman television anime series, but is directly involved with the production of The Reflection. Lee also co-created the Ultimo manga series with Shaman King creator Hiroyuki Takei and collaborated with YOSHIKI on a comic project as well. Not to mention several Marvel Comics have inspired manga and anime adaptations.

The Reflection is a collaboration between Lee and his company Pow! Entertainment, Studio DEEN, and director Hiroshi Nagahama.

Lee has been credited with the original work for the series, and the duo of Pow! Entertainment and Studio DEEN are credited with the project planning.

Hiroshi Nagahama (The Flowers of Evil, Detroit Metal City) is credited as co-creating and directing the series, and is also helping by provide the original character designs. Yoshihiko Umakoshi (Heartcatch Precure!) will be adapting the original designs for animation. Grammy-winning British music producer Trevor Horn will be producing the music. Japanese pop group 9nine (Star Driver, Magi, My Little Monster) is performing the show’s ending theme song.

The series is described by Studio DEEN as the following:

After THE REFLECTION, some of the people in all parts of the world are discovered with super powers. Some become heroes, and others villains. How did the Reflection happen? What was the cause of it? With many unsolved mysteries, the world is lead into turmoil.
