Death Note isn't a show for children, as it is littered with adult themes and content however, kids are going to find a way to watch what they want to.

A fourth grader from an elementary school in Memphis (TN) was suspended this week for reportedly threatening a girl with a homemade 'Death Note'.

According to Michelle Killough, the mother of a 10-year-old girl who attends Grahamwood Elementary School in Memphis, she stated that a boy threatened her daughter by saying he put her name on a "death list".

This sounds pretty familiar to a character from a show, we are looking at you Light... Killough did her own research and found the show Death Note and said that it seemed very similar to what was happening with her daughter. When asked about it she said, " "I was reading about Death Note. They put you on a special notebook, and you die."

Regarding what happened to her daughter, Killough said, "A boy that had been harassing her stopped her in the hall and said, 'You're on my death list." She of course was worried about the safety of her daughter and and reported the incident to the school teachers and staff, and they immediately started investigating the incident. The teachers reportedly found a list in the middle schooler's math notebook, and are investigating the incident further. Shelby County Schools did reportedly tell the mother that the boy did get the idea from the list from a television show, though that it is not confirmed.

The boy has been disciplined for "making threatening comments", and when asked stated "the student poses no imminent threat".

For those not fimilliar with Death Note the anime follows a teenager named Light, as he finds a mysterious notebook outside of his highschool. This notebook holds extreme power, as it can kill people by just writing down their name, and it can also determine the way they die.

This is not the first Death Note incident, as there has been more than ten incidents in the United states alone where schools linked death lists to the show. There was a Highschool senior in Virginia that was suspended, a middleschooler in South Carolina, two sixth-grade students, and more.

Netflix will be releasing a live action Death Note movie this year, and the first season of the anime is currently available to stream on Netflix as well.
