Last week, news broke that Shailene Woodley's character Mary Jane Watson had been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The news was somewhat surprising given that Woodley had already filmed her scenes for the movie. However, Hollywood Life has the explanation, but be warned that the explanation contains a major spoiler. According to a source close to production, Emma Stone's character Gwen Stacy dies in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Of course, Gwen Stacy dies in a famous storyline from the Spider-Man comic books, so it's no real surprise that she dies in the movie series. However, it had been up for debate as to exactly when her death would occur in the movie series. Some had predicted that director Marc Webb might save Gwen's death for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but it looks the sequel will end with a Stacy death just like the original. With Gwen Stacy set to meet the grim reaper, director Marc Webb evidently felt it was too much to have Peter Parker dating again before Gwen Stacy's corpse was even cold. Webb wants to have Gwen Stacy's death really mean something and have a profound effect on Peter Parker, which might be hard to pull off is Peter has another girl on the side. Besides spoiling Amazing Spider-Man 2, Hollywood Life also drops another interesting tidbit. Even though rumors have suggested that the role of Mary Jane Watson will be recast for Amazing Spider-Man 3, they seem to be fairly certain that Shailene will be back and given the opportunity to shine in Amazing Spider-Man 3.
