Tom Hiddleston to Replace Benedict Cumberbatch in Crimson Peak

Tom Hiddleston

Did Benedict Cumberbatch leave Crimson Peak for a role in Star Wars Episode VII? We probably won't know for sure anytime soon, but one thing's clear: his role in the Guillermo del Toro-directed Legendary Pictures tentpole will be filled by Marvel's The Avengers villain Tom Hiddleston.

Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Charlie Hunnam also star in the gothic horror pic about a woman who discovers that her new husband is not who he claims to be.

The film will be one of the first major releases that Universal Pictures and Legendary will work on together; Legendary opted out of their decade-old relationship with Warner Bros. to team with Universal earlier this year.

Cumberbatch bowed out of the role last month for unspecified reasons.
